Started taking photos seriously roughly 4 years ago to document the uneasy survival of a pit village on England’s desolate North Sea coast. Now almost finished a degree in Photographic Practice in Newcastle upon Tyne and becoming increasingly passionate about medium and large format film and hand printing. Committed to continuing local documentary assignments and commissioned portrait work and collaborations.

But this site is my sandbox, for fun and play. To see the working portfolio slowly being built, including examples of prints for sale, commissions and all that malarkey, please go here: www.brendaburrell.co.uk.

There’s either an appalling amount of excess loquacity, or nowt of much consequence on pages like these. Musings are only moderately interesting, and some would have it that photographs really do speak for themselves. Maybe it’s also worth going back to typing in dialect, as a kind of humane filter. Problem is though, which dialect would it be?

If you were going to invest a substantial amount of time and a great deal of extremely precious sparse thinking capacity learning a musical instrument, which one would it be? Did you ever think, even fleetingly, of a) surdo or b) melodion ?

I’m passionate about hand printing, the hour before dawn, fast lenses and south Indian vegan food. I keep losing scarves and have recently taken up knitting. For sheer blogging stamina, I admire Pete Ashton and Stef Zucconi. For unending support and encouragement, Connie Coates, Laura Goodman and Geraldine Wilkins.

If you’d like to hire me, feel free to email for a rate card and/or a private link to my CV. I look forward to hearing from you.
