We’re all are so very pleased that Aaron is through in the Fresh Faced & Wild Eyed shortlist at The Photographers’ Gallery with his lovely low-light photographs of the last days at Ashington’s open cast mine. It’s a lesson in patience, and persistence, faith in one’s own work. Congratulations!

This is a picture of Aaron in first edit, and oh how he loathes pictures of himself. He must be rather miserable at the moment, 20 foot high billboards with Mike Baister’s atmospheric photographs announcing the start of the Durham Mysteries strategically placed at roadsides all across the north east. Naked, too.

The above is us, in the gallery at the erstwhile Number 7 Project about 2.5 years ago, choosing the edit/s of this work for our first group show. It wasn’t easy. The top one is a photograph of the photograph that made it as our signature piece and poster boy for that first show. Click through below to see what’s made it to the Photographers’ Gallery. More than one of my favourites, and possibly a less ah, traditional edit of the two. I don’t think we were bold enough.
These are the finalists, there’s another round, no doubt with first and second prizes. We’ll be keeping all our fingers tightly crossed, there’s some amazing work here. Go and see it if you’re in lovely auld London, and let us know what you think.
