Visitor to our Courtyard Gallery: “Hey, this is amazing. Is the artist a deep sea diver?”
Me: “Yes, in a way, she is.”
Photographing other people’s artworks is often part of the process of appreciating them. It would be useful if artists making funded pieces could allow for properly made photographs in their funding applications. There are all too many examples of either poor photos of rather good work in artists’ portfolios, or photographs that have been made for nothing.
If you look closely you’ll see some of the marks on the glass covering on the top of this magnificent table, for table is what it is. The plan was to get of a feel of the glass, its flaws, scratches and polish marks, since it gives a suitably watery, foggy, translucent sheen to the piece.
This piece is part of the inspiration behind the winter project some of us have been planning. Three sculptors, three photographers exhibiting together, and making work during the dead-of-night darkest days of winter. We will definitely keep you posted: we’re meeting on Saturday to organise the dates and some pre-publicity. More on the artists, and the table, later. You, dear readers, will be the first to know.
Here are a couple of additional photos hard-coded in, for those who cannot read the Flash slideshow above.
