Mystery TOTC

One of the great delights of moving worldly goods around in boxes, is discovering things that’ve been hidden for a while. So in the new fridge at Number Seven are a few rolls of film from the long-established Tale of Two Cities project.

The plan was, to shoot a roll of 35mm or 120 film (any kind), and then send it to someone else in another part of the country, or in another country, and they’d re-load the film into their own camera, and expose it again. Double exposures, blind. You don’t have any idea what the other person has photographed, or you might share a list of subject matter, or whatever you decide between you. One person pays for the film, the other pays for the developing. Then whoever’s developed them puts them on the internet somewhere and we exclaim in amazement.

This film was exposed for the first time somewhere like Canada, at a guess, but the owner’s label has long since disappeared. It was exposed a second time at Saltburn on Sea this summer. Here’s the whole lot, with just the boring ones or duplicates (yes!) removed. 30/36 interesting outcomes is a pretty good ratio.

People reading by RSS (or anyone else who can’t see the embedded slide show above) can click on the top picture to see them all.  If you want to have a go, just let me know in the comments and I’ll send you an exposed film. You can also send me a film exposed in or around your own environs, and I’ll photograph on top and post the results here. Either way is good, there’s no obligation to reciprocate.

There’s another collaborative project doing the rounds of blogs & Twitter at the moment. It’s not double exposure, it’s about passing on a cheap or disposable film camera. The details are here. More on that at some point soon.
