One of these was hand held, against all the best advice. Shutter speed on the others was F16 and 20 or 30 seconds. Almost the best part of the year, these long autumn nights. There’s a table of exposure times here and a traffic trails tutorial here. If you’ve still got a fireworks party to do, try a really long exposure, say 2-5 minutes at as small an aperture as you can get, but make sure you’re away from the light of the bonfire.
Karen Strunks‘ next 4am Project date is December 6th. If you like being part of these big collaborations be out there.

Boat burning was magnificent as an event: indelibly memorable.
Debra: good to see you. Now’s the time to get the practice, these beautiful dark nights. Although a beanbag on a harbour wall is as good. You’ve reminded me of a quote I found in a notebook yesterday:
“Blur is our moral guarantee of instanaeity.”
