Guess The Gizmo [2]

gizmo [2] ©Brenda Burrell 2009

Three different sized holes in the middle, a ridged rubber mat across one surface, two screws with threads of the same size running freely, and underneath are handly thumbwheels presumably for tightening them.

This is a terribly easy one. I’m sure most people will have one of these in a drawer somewhere, yes?

No?

Guess The Gizmo [1] was soon identified by the incredible all-seeing Murdoch, and was much harder. I give this one 24 hours: it’s the weekend.

Probably  need to paint that windowsill.

Update

Pete Ashton using a very similar gizmo to make a film and take photographs at the same time. Remarkable man.

It is terribly easy this one!
It is so clear that is a coffee machine!

It’s one of the brackets I use to keep the top box attached to my roof rack. I was looking for this morning. Glad you found it. Can I have it back now?

Too easy – it’s a thing you put next to your tape measure to see what six inches looks like.

Is it a bracket for an off-camera flash?

So good he said it twice.

Sam, I think the reason you got buried deep inside my spam queue with all those cialis ads has something to do with your email address.

Is it a fixed bracket for an off camera flash?

You could put an off-camera flash on it, or another camera, say a video or timelapse camera, yes.

The holes are to lock through to a tripod or light stand. There’s a picture somewhere of Pete Ashton using one recently. I’ll post it tomorrow.

Pier: you could conceivably put a cone-shaped paper filter into one of the bigger holes in the top, but it would collapse as soon as you poured the water in. A jug would work better.

Alex: that’s a very small car you’re driving around with all those bairns inside.

Jac: it could serve that purpose, in fact I’ll use it for measuring the next 6″ on this jacket I’m knitting. So far you’ve provided the best answer in terms of finding a use for the thing…

.. but wrong. You’re all wrong.

So congratulations to the lovely Sam Smith for getting this one, and here’s a link to a post showing Pete Ashton using one of these, or one very similar.
