It has cost me over £400 to repack and collect my glass dresses and I would like to know Matts address so I can send him my invoice. Also every dress was damaged due to careless removal and I will have to spend 26 days minimum to repair them for the next gallery showing, this will cost at least £200.

Another update...on the existing string of updates.

I was in the warehouse again today, collecting a brilliant piece of artwork on an artist's behalf. Egads! The auction is tomorrow and there is still such a lot of artwork in there. I was both surprised and dismayed. I also clocked a few boxes of lovely china dishes and handmade bags that I had seen in the boutique a few months ago. To think...all of this hard work and care going into what?

Antony: my email address is the same as it's been for a decade, or the contact form on my About page does the same job. Yes, please do make arrangements to collect your portfolio boxes asap, that would be marvelous, but your 'paint all filled holes' approach where you instruct others to work for you, simply isn't going to happen.

When you say "this reminds me", yes indeed. Matt Forster owes me £230 which it looks unlikely he is going to repay. Many others reading this comments thread are in the same situation, owed money or missing artwork, which might have been sold to pay off his debts to the council. This is their thread, ranking high on google for searches for Matt Forster alone and with his name plus words like theft, debt, bailiff and bankruptcy.

Your time at Number 7 merits a post of its own where you can comment or correct any remaining thoughts any of us might have about missing residency work, the application of group resources, or unpaid rent. Or if you would like to write something from your own point of view, we could link to your own blog, or maybe even host on your behalf. Would that be helpful?

Sharon tried to collect my piece from the auction house today along with her own work and that of another friend. Unfortunately not there. Who knows where . . sold, stolen, binned?
On the off chance that anyone happens to see it it would be great if they got in contact with me (art@chantalpowell.com). Here's a link to a pic of it:

Here's hoping and thanks!

Thanks Sharon and Cassandra for these updates. There have been another couple by email. And thanks also to Craig for his post on the Graft list. I'll do another post to incorporate all this asap.

Has anyone been paid yet?

Today I read on a forum for local artists that the Star and Shadow are now having difficulties due to Matt's brilliant decision making and tact. Read the story below..it will make you just a little bit angrier than you probably are already:

http://www.sundaysun.co.uk/news/north-east-news/2009/10/18/star-shadow-cinema-faces-axe-79310-24954952/

It's shocking to me that artists are still only just finding out at this late stage that their work has been taken to the auction house. I really do hope that everyone is able to get their stuff out of the warehouse in time.

I just received this from the Council btw - so it looks like people have until November 5th now, just wanted to let you all know...

"Bailiffs entered upon the property to collect goods in lieu of rent on Friday 25 September 2009. The Council subsequently found out that many of the items that were removed belonged to third parties and were anxious for these to be reclaimed, therefore we requested that the Bailiff extended the date by which works should be collected to 21 October 2009, this has now been further extended to 5 November 2009.

As I understand it, the gallery is responsible for notifying third parties whose goods have been seized, however such is the Council’s desire to reunite artists with their work, I wrote to the gallery on 30 September 2009 requesting a list of artists’ names and contact details in order that we may contact you all direct, such a list has not been provided. "

So it looks like yet again Matt Forster has screwed everyone over by not providing the council with this list so they could contact us.

I am now going on Monday to collect work from the auction house, just crossing my fingers the gallery didn't sell it and that it is in fact there.
