East Durham Artists’ Network is in the early throes of making an arts lab at Durham University and some of us went over there last Saturday to rescue a few demolition materials of potential use to sculptors and there, suddenly, was this opportunity to enjoy the moist autumnal light and the stunning colours of these neatly trimmed institutional grounds. Lots more of architectural interest to see there. Durham is beautiful in many unexpected ways.

Everyone and their mother’s painter friend seems to be engrossed enhancing colours or playing around with levels in the dreaded photoshop. Natural light does it every time for me. This green, I promise you, was the effect of three days’ rain, and not some damnable levels slider.

Tomorrow is the @northconfone-day Rule of Thirds in Cumbria. There may be spaces, there may not. It’s very late to enquire. We shall see what unusual delights the light of the western coast reveals.
