Electric Sheep

Such a lot happening at the moment, there’s hardly a moment to write. Procrastination of the residency and the next show at Number 7 really cannot be delayed any longer. Internet switchover happens tomorrow. Apparently all that has to happen is the router is unplugged from one telephone socket and plugged into the readied and willing next. Marvelous.

There will soon be time to elucidate further, but a quickfire checklist for pending posts includes: my notes from the Humanising Photography Conference in Durham, a review of City State featuring John Davies’ new work at the Lit & Phil, Simon Norfolk’s talk at the Mining Institute, and Martin Parr at the opening of Parrworld at the Baltic the other night. Three out of four of those were magnificent, and the fourth was mediocre. I’ll leave you to guess which, pending a fuller expose in coming days.

Also to come are answers to some reader questions, including how to mount slides, and a simple explanation of aperture/shutter speed for a couple of folk moving to photography from digital imaging. There’s a further post on Matt Forster’s strange behaviour over his growing debts relating to The Art Works and the explanation he gave us when we presented him with our invoices at the Newcastle-Gateshead Art Fair.

Correspondences is the very next post. A series of collaborative projects which you’ll begin to see growing here and elsewhere. And there’s The Residency Book, which arrived some weeks ago now, and whether or not we’re backing Durham’s Capital of Culture bid, and a way overdue update on where I’ve been exhibiting this summer, to include a few more pretty pictures from the Germany exchange, and the stone geckos of Stuttgart. And you might want to know where I’ll be exhibiting this winter. Lots and lots.

Another question we’ve been pondering is the Photonorth/Wideyed saga which may not mean anything to anyone, perhaps not even as a lesson in how to do something better, so how much merit there might be in sharing a view of that, it’s hard to guage. Let me know in the comments if you do care. And there’s been a request to talk about one specific lager lout who teaches a photography degree, but as my Australian lecturer friend says, there are rather a lot of them about. Still, would you like to see the photos?

Coming next events-wise is John Davies’ talk at The Mining Institute on Wednesday, and the second half of Dawn Lehrer’s interesting looking run at The Place in Sunderland. That’s got a Facebook page, apparently. Then there’s North: The Rule of Thirds in Ulverston followed by a Lith Printing Course from the renowned Tim Rudman at Thames Valley University. He’s on Facebook too. Lots to talk about, lots to see, lots to share.

Turn off the TV and come join us.
