Just as the light was going, couple of cameraphone pictures at yesterday’s golden hour on the creamy smooth finish of the refurbed Apollo Pavilion was undeniably spectacular. There’s a football in the lake. There’s always a football in the lake.
The refurb was completed in July and the understanding from one meeting and reading through minutes of several others, that eight photographers had been involved in a documentation of the construction works and the piece’s impact on life and community in Sunny Blunts. The list included Sally Ann Norman,Michele Allen and Chris Holmes, all of whom have produced some excellent work here in Peterlee. We were all horribly busy with Number Seven at the time, or there may have been nine. Or is that too many? Can there be too many photographers on a project like this? Did I hear you say yes?
Maybe there’s a group project, possibly a book to come. Or more. If you’re in the know, I’d love to hear about it.
There is a new microsite, with some interesting photographs of the building of the Pavilion, and apparently there’s a photography exhibition on 5-6 of September at Peterlee Show: “[a] marquee at the Apollo Pavilion will host photographic exhibition and guides will be on hand to give escorted, informed tours of the pavilion.” So we’ll see.

It does indeed look very beautiful.
