A remarkable email came this week from someone whose grandmother was my paternal grandmother’s sister, or some similar or more complex connection that we haven’t fathomed out yet. Young Joseph and Parker above are my grandma Cora Longstaff’s brothers. Our branch of the family knew about Parker’s death in France, there’d been a family trip to the war graves some years ago. What we didn’t know about is Joseph’s journalism, his published letters from the front. A visit to the newspaper archives to unearth those will no doubt prove fascinating.
Much has been written about the role of photography in family and historical records, and this is scanned from a book of locally published history called The People’s History: Willington Remembered by Olive Linge. Thank you Olive. More family history snippets to come.
This came among the largest and most consistently pernicious volume of spam, likened by Pete to a plague of slugs. An apt metaphor. If you’ve mailed TPP in recent days please bear with me as the system is restored to some normality, and email again if you’re not sure. Thanks!
