A reason to find and switch on a working television? The history of the Amber film and photography collective who operate from the Side Gallery and Cinema down on Newcastle’s Quayside.
Amber has a vast collection of local (and not-so-local) photography spanning the 30 years from the early 1970s. Notable local documentary work from Murray Martin, who sadly died only last year, and from Sirkka-Liisa Konttinen will be bound to feature, but there will be other work, and probably also the fascinating story of how Amber helped to save much of the Quayside’s splendid Victorian and Georgian buildings from the bulldozer.
