How to Shoot Events, an article by the man who sleeps with the notorious Heather Champ, finds me almost totally in agreement. Point 2 is the best bit of advice ever, for anything. Here it is reprinted in full:
Nice one, Derek. The only part I wouldn’t do is 6. Yes, I agree, don’t use flash unless you must, and if you really must, make sure it’s reflected. But please don’t crank up the ISO unless you want prints for the back of matchboxes. Instead, follow the advice of the woman in Derek’s comments stream, and take a fast lens. Noise is definitely not better than blur. Blur is always infinitely better than noise, and is terribly fashionable in gig photography at the moment. So there.
